The past few years have been a rollercoaster ride for the design industry. While facing various challenges, OfficeWorks has demonstrated resilience and adaptability, experiencing significant growth and success.

Through the 2020s

The decade of the 2020’s has begun as an incredible roller coaster ride – a little scary at times - but making us want to see what’s coming around the next corner. In 2020 the Covid pandemic had an obvious worldwide impact, and that year saw our revenue drop 18% from 2019 levels. However, in 2021 as the world started to come back to work, our industry saw a substantial rebound and we were able to grow our revenues a whopping 33% and are on target for a record year in 2024 for the OfficeWorks team.

We also saw two important developments in our industry that will have significant impact on the working environment: First, we saw the strong emergence of the “resimercial” concept of workplace design. First coined around 2018, the term is a combination of “residential” and “commercial,” bringing aspects of home into the contemporary workspace. The feeling is that by creating homelike environments where we want to be – and where we truly enjoy spending time – is one way to accommodate the increased demand placed on today’s workforce.

The second was our flagship brand, Herman Miller, acquiring Knoll in July of 2021. This move brought together the two iconic leaders in modern design in our industry, with a combined portfolio of 19 outstanding brands for today’s workplace.
