Knot Pillow
“I’ve always been attracted to strange and unique things,” says Ragnheiður Ösp Sigurðardóttir as she explains how she developed her Knot Pillow. “I try to create unusual designs, products that are unpredictable and that make people curious.” This piece started as an experiment with tubular knitting and ended with a knot pillow that's not like any other.
Organic Forms Poster
Herman Miller has a long tradition of styling its physical spaces with bold ads and graphics, a process it calls “environmental enrichment.” Fans of the brand often ask where they can find these works of art, which prompted the company to reprint select pieces from its archives. Under the creative direction of Stephen Frykholm, designer Philip Mitchell created the colorful Organic Forms Poster (1972) for Herman Miller’s offices and showrooms.
Charred Vases
The Charred Vases are five unique forms made in the dying Portuguese art of Barro Preto. Buried and fired in an underground pit called a Soenga, this process of smothering the ceramic removes oxygen and results in a non-homogenous texture of black, grey and earth tones. A vanishing tradition - there are few artisans left who have the knowledge to produce objects in Barro Preto.
